Is there a chance for me to get into top math graduate program?

Hi all,

I'm senior this year, and I am going to apply for graduate schools this fall. I am so worried about it. I wish someone here can give me some suggestions about it. Thanks.

Currently studying in an engineering school.
Major: Math
Minor: Physics
GPA: 3.87
Will take General GRE and GRE math subject tests this Fall.

Participated into MASS (Mathematics Advanced Semester Study) Program in Penn State twice, and Participated into BSM (Budapest Semester in Mathematics) Program last semester.

Math courses:
a) Undergraduate: Linear algebra, Differential equation, Multivariable Calculus, Probability, Complex variables, Problem solving and proofs, Combinatorics, Abstract algebra.

b) Dynamics, Elliptic curves, Symplectic geometry, Topics in Geometry, Quantum logics and probability, Topology, Complex analysis, Group and their connections to geometry, and Convexity.

c) I plan to take PDE, advanced algebra, and algebraic topology in my last semester...

Research experience:
a) did REU in Lafayette college, and wrote a paper with the mentor and other students on cellular automata. The paper had been accepted and will be published this year.

b) did REU in Cornell University, and worked on Julia sets with the mentor. Currently working on the paper and wish to publish it.

c) did 3 projects in the MASS program (study population models (LV models) , Origami project (Hyperbolic Parboiled), and Supersingular elliptic curves.

d) typed the lecture notes for one course (Quantum Logic and probability) taught in BSM program, because the professor did not have books or references for that class... It shall be counted as a project...

e) I will continue working on the origami project and hopefully to get the results this year, so I can type another paper. I had gotten something last year, but I wanted to finish the project.

f) I want to work with someone on dynamics and probably write my honors thesis on dynamics.

Conference:
a) Mathfest 2008. We did the presentation about the model.

b) Poster presentation in young mathematician conference in Ohio state 2009.

Interests:
Dynamics (Complex Dynamics or questions related to dynamics from other fields, physics, biology, and chemistry, PDE, Analysis, Geometry (fractal geometry, origami folding).

Thank you!

Your information looks impressive, from GPA to research. Just choose your LOR writers carefully, and spend time now (before classes begin!) crafting your SOP. You should be already researching the programs you want to apply to.

^^I agree that your resume looks very, very good. You’ve done far more research than most undergraduate math majors, especially with two competitive REUs under your belt. GRE test scores and letters of recommendation will be very important for your grad school applications, and also your GPA for math courses only

Hi roomie :)
