Is there a chance of getting into college with terrible GPA?

Hello everyone, I have an awful issue. My HS cumulative GPA is abysmal (1.78). This is mainly due to family issues (drug addicted parents, abusive household, etc.) combined with ADHD, Anxiety, and Depression. While money isn’t an issue, my grades certainly are. I always did ell in essays and was always liked by teachers, but I don’t think any schools (except for community colleges, maybe) will accept me with such a low GPA. My ACT scores were above average, but not amazing, since I didn’t have much time to study. I considered re-taking it, but I’m not sure it’s worth it at this point.

Should I bother applying at all? I intended to apply to state universities, but that might be a little too high for such an awful GPA. Is there anything I can do to increase my chances of getting accepted? I’m also a foreign student from Uruguay, if that helps.

Do you currently reside in the USA? With such a record, you can probably do best in community college to catch up on what you most might have missed out during HS and to give yourself (and the college) confidence

@T26E4 I thought so too! I currently do not reside in the U.S, which is why I’m searching for community colleges with a dorm option. How long would I have to study in community college? Doubtful a visa they provide will let me study for longer than two years.
