Is there a such thing as brother legacy?

My brother is currently an undergraduate at MIT. Does that have an impact on my admissions? Does anyone know if it is weighed similarly to regular legacy, somewhere in the middle, or if there is no weight at all? Are there many siblings at MIT?

Thanks!!

Yes, i think there should be a question that says do u have any relatives at MIT. If not put it in additional info but there should be a question like that.

I believe at most schools having a sibling there does help. However, at MIT they don’t consider legacy at all, so it won’t help you at all.

That said, I know of a few sibling sets that have all gone to MIT. It may be a cultural kind of thing, though. If you grow up in a household where the ideals valued at MIT are also valued, you have a higher chance of ending up here.

Pretty sure the only thing it ends up mattering for is financial aid. If you and your brother are both good matches for MIT, you’ll both be admitted…if he’s a good match, that doesn’t mean that you are.
