Yes - I’m trying to figure out how the OP snagged three internships in top level corporations as a high school student with such a low GPA. Besides the fact that there are very few such internships, and that they usually require the high school students to be 16, they almost always want students with top grades. I don’t think that Google even has any internships for high schools students before their Senior year.
The fact that the OP popped up, posted once, and has not responded since is also a bit questionable.
For my internship with Google, I did have a family friend who helped me get in; it was more to see whether or not I have an interest in software and data fields. For my internships at the wealth management companies, I got in by myself.
There is no age limit for google internships. Some people working on the team which I interned for were 19 years old! I first got the Merill Lynch internship after which I completed my supervisor recommended me to get an internship at another company as well to see if that was the career I wanted to pursue.
Interning at a wealth management company doesn’t mean you are advising people in management. You are experiencing what people do in their everyday life while working in that field. My days there consisted of filing, researching, and helping the employee while they work.
Thanks for the links! I am applying to Babson, but I would much rather prefer to stay on the west coast(where I live). If I get in I would most likely go.
My problem is to see whether I really have a chance or not, I don’t want to write college essays and pay for an application for a school I will basically get rejected from. I have to pay for college essay help and counselors by myself, so I need to see if I even have the slightest chance. Unfortunately, I think I don’t have any chance at all.
I don’t get why I would post a fake resume when It wouldn’t help me at all. I didn’t disclose any personal information about myself so the only way for someone to connect this back to me is if they know me personally. Care to clarify?
When you neglect your GPA for other interests that sends a certain message about your priorities. There are colleges that would love to have you, but I don’t think your GPA is high enough for the Ivies.
If you have to pay for college essay help and applications on your own does that mean your parents aren’t contributing to college costs at all? If they can’t/won’t pay you have a real challenge ahead of you.
" I would much rather prefer to stay on the west coast(where I live)."
Then why waste time on the Ivy League schools, which are a reach for everybody? There are plenty of fine schools on the West Coast outside of Stanford, which is also a reach for everybody. Why not focus your search there?
Tippy top adcoms will see straight through all that, see the B grades and scores. You made choices. Job prep is not academic prep. Tippy tops want kids who thrive in the classroom, are prepared for the higher bar in classes, once there.
ECs are prt of the equation, but not the sort that barrel down this pre-professional interest.
And just writing a book, maybe self publishing, is not a tip.
You have lots to learn about what the right matches are.
Yeah, I definitely should have taken more time to focus on my GPA. My parents are willing to help me pay for my college tuition but when it comes to college essays and counseling they deem it unnecessary.
Chiming in to say the OP could have an internship at Google. My DS23 has an internship there. He impressed the right person at a competition. He’s 14.
To the OP: There are thousands of colleges where you can get a good education. If you’re set on an ivy, then apply to a couple as reaches but know that gaining admission to those schools is tough for everyone. Be sure to add some good matches and safeties to your list too. Best of luck to you.
Yes, some students applying to elite schools have college essay and private college counseling. BUT many many do not.
I don’t normally do chances but this one keeps popping up.
Please explain…
Why do you want to go to an Ivy League school? For the name? The prestige? Or what. And which one...there are 8 with very distinct “personalities”.
Does your high school have Naviance? If so, look there to see how many students with your stats were accepted at these schools. If you know they were athletes or legacies to the schools...don’t count them.
What are the characteristics you are looking for in a college. Make a list. Then start to look for colleges where your stats are solid in terms of possible acceptance that have the characteristics you want.
If you want to stay on the west coast, why are you looking at the Ivies at all. They are all in the east. There are plenty of wonderful colleges on the west coast.
Yes Google and other tech companies can spot talent at hackathons and such, but there are just too many puzzle pieces that don’t seem to fit together well here…
