I'm in the process of completing an application to DePaul University and I've come to a point where I have to write a 250 words minimum from one of their predesignated topics or a topic of my own. I opted for topic of my choice because the other topics didn't really pertain to me. I wanted to talk about why I am interested in DePaul University because of their emphasis on diversity. I wanted to explain that being around different people and doing different things would make me a well rounded person and I have a desire to be that well rounded person and how I would benefit so much from attending and I wanted acknowledge their awards for diversity because I heard colleges that love being bragged about. I was wondering if this is a good outline for an essay or if I should just totally scrap it and think of another topic?

No. It sounds like you are talking too much about what they already know, and sucking up is never a good idea. Unless you can say something more meaningful about why you personally want diversity, why it seems to be lacking in your life, how it would challenge your current beliefs or something, I would scrap it. It sounds too bland the way you put it here, so being meaningful and reaching under the surface is the key.

I say scrap it. Like BrownParent said, it sounds way too bland
