Is this a good school for computer science?

IIT is a Ph.D. granting research university, like the UCs and it is part of the Association of Independent Technical Universities [Association of Independent Technological Universities: AITU](http://theaitu.org) . It is, however, small as far as undergraduate population goes (~2,600) unlike the UCs.

The Computer Science curriculum is good and our students get jobs after graduation.

However, your grades and test scores are way below the median of our entering students.

I mean What level is this school compared to the UC’s

More like the UC’s but the UC’s are huge state universities. IIT is a private technical university that is part of the AITU (see link in my previous post). Other AITU schools include CalTech, MIT, CMU, Case Western, RPI and so on. Some of the members are research universities (the ones I list above) and others are undergraduate institutions. IIT is a research university.

As for rankings, they should never be taken too seriously because they are usually based on name recognition rather than a real assessment of the quality of education. You can find a ranking that gives you any answer you want. For example, Illinois Institute of Technology does well in the rankings of pay scale but we don’t have a lot of non-engineering majors where salaries are lower. We don’t do so well in U.S. News rankings because those are heavily reputation based and IIT is not as well known outside the engineering and architecture fields.
