I am currently a freshman and have been debating on classes for next year. Here is what I would like. Health Science Foundations and Chemistry honors is required since I’m currently in our high school’s pre-med program. (Keep in mind that AP Biology is only supposed to be juniors and seniors for our school but I will talk to my counselor to let me have it since I plan on majoring in pre-med or science)
Health Science Foundations 2
World History Honors (Should I make it AP?)
Algebra 2 honors
Chemistry 1 honors
Jazz Band 2
AP Biology
Music Ensemble 2
AP Lang & Comp
(Also currently doing AP Psych over the summer)
I am involved in many extracurriculars after school but here is my current schedule. As a freshman, I feel like my current schedule is insanely easy and I end up finishing early and do homework in almost all my classes, leaving not that much homework left to do after school.
Health Science 1
AP Human Geography
Geometry honors
Biology 1 honors (It’s very boring since it doesn’t go in depth)
Jazz Band 1
Spanish 3 honors (Going to do dual Spanish senior year)
Music Ensemble 1
English 2 honors (I am a big English buff, love English and do not mind essays!)
Your sophomore schedule is pretty decent as it is; no need to add another AP, although AP World is usually not the most demanding class compared to APUSH and AP Lang, so you might not have to sacrifice much more time in taking it. The only thing that I see being a problem is that you are going to try to take college-level Spanish after two years of not having Spanish at all, although a lot of the beginning Spanish classes in college are designed for people with little to no experience with the language.
I agree with @r2v2018. This is a very good schedule! However, something I will add is that AP World, at least in my school, is considered the most difficult AP besides Physics C, Chemistry, English Lang, and Spanish Lang. While I don’t know how much this applies to other schools, if this is the case, it would make your schedule much harder, especially because you’re already doing two difficult APs and three honors courses on top of that.
Best of luck! This looks very challenging, and I hope you do well! Have a good day!
Wait… how are you in English 2 in freshman year… That’s confusing, but overall your schedule is pretty rigorous. I would suggest doing WHAP (world history ap) because as @r2v2018 said, it really isn’t that demanding as compared to Lang and Bio.
My school is quite the opposite to @anthonytheboy. AP World History is by far the easiest social studies class in the entire high school. If you do take the AP version, make sure you can manage that. You are taking AP Bio and Honors Chem in the same year. Honestly, I think doing AP Psych over the summer is a complete waste of time. You won’t take the AP exam until the following May. If your school offers it, I would take that at some point in high school. Colleges (as I’ve heard) do not care about whether you got a 5 on AP Psych randomly. They want to see the course on the transcript, and that you succeeded.
@Hellothere7665
Yes, definitely.
Lots of my friends who are now rising juniors took AP Bio with Honors Chemistry and said that taking those together helped them understand the material a lot and grasp the concepts easily. A solid understanding of chemistry is imperative to being successful in biology. In fact, Honors Chemistry is a preliminary requisite to AP Biology at the school I go to (but chemistry can be taken concurrently). Take them both. You will thank me later.
I actually did manage to double up on AP Bio and Honors Chem for a little bit (the latter was online and it took me a while to finish because I was never on pace) and did fine. Even in the event that both courses are taken at a physical school setting concurrently, it probably still wouldn’t be impossible to double up on AP Bio and an honors lab science, although it would most definitely be challenging.
In my opinion, the only serious problem arises when students try to double up (or worse, triple up) on any two or more of the AP lab sciences that normally would take two semesters to complete in a real college setting, such as AP Biology, AP Physics C, or AP Chemistry (or even worse, their dual enrollment/college counterparts, which have separate grades for the course and its corresponding lab, meaning students would actually be taking four different science classes, all at the college level). I don’t think anybody, especially someone who would be taking other rigorous courses, should ever resort to doing that.
Definitely take Spanish 4 next year if you want to take an upper level class.
Tripling up in science (health foundation, chemistry, AP Bio) seems like too much.
AP Lang and comp is often a junior class so talk to the English teachers to see if you have the skills and maturity for it. If they say to go for it take EITHER AP Bio OR APWH.
