I know it really sort of depends on how well I write about it but I do know there are some tthings that a college wants to know about me, the applicant.

The prompt- Discuss a significant person, experience or achievement that has meaning for you.

The topic- I want to write about the time one of my dogs lost its eye because of another dog and the effect the experience had on me.

it can be a good topic if it’s written well. obviously both how and what matters for an essay, but if you can do an amazing “how” the “what” won’t matter so much. for example, some people write college essays on the versatility of bubblegum and how that versatility resembles the applicant. if you can try to do both “how and what” really well. in other words, pick a great topic and do it well. i think an essay on your dog may lack in “what” but something tells me that you will do it well and do a good “how” and the “what” will come to mean something to the reader. bottomline, get started and if it turns out it doesn’t work out, don’t feel timid in starting another topic. best of luck! james
