Is this a practical idea? (double major)

I am going to college to study Occupational Therapy and was accepted in the University of New Hampshire’s 5 1/2 Masters program. However, I would like to graduate with both my masters in OT and my teaching license. Is that possible? I know teachers need masters degrees, right? Can anyone advise me on how to accomplish this?

Thanks,
TKat

Why would you want a master’s in both occupational therapy and a teaching license? And in what?

This is likely to not be functionally possible. It, of course, depends completely on your school. But the entire point of an accelerated BS + MS program is that you finish the degree in less time than normal because you are taking an overload of the necessary classes and/or you are taking fewer classes because some requirements are double-counted. Those programs usually do not leave any room for additional majors or programs, especially not one as demanding as education (which will require a free semester for student teaching).

Teachers need master’s degrees in a subject that is required by the state. A master’s in occupational therapy will likely not be very helpful in that regard.

You know the old saying “Jack of all trades, master of none”?? It pretty much sounds like what you’re describing.

Decide on a path. But don’t try to be two totally different things. You don’t have time in 4 years to learn to be really good at either; there’s definitely not enough time to learn to be both.
