I recently read a thread here where someone said that colleges typically ignore community service when looking at an applicant if they went on an expensive out-of-country trip to a poor community (i guess because of the expensive part). I am going to Nicaragua this summer with the Amigos organization. I had to fundraise to get all of the money, and its not like I’m going on vacation. But will colleges ignore this important accomplishment and experience of mine?
Thanks
Lol no you’re good. As long as you make it clear that you had to fundraise then you’re fine. They’re talking about the cushy programs rich people send their kids on where they pay like $10k for their kid to go “help a village” through a program.
Probably won’t “ignore” it, but since so many students do it, how does it make you stand out?
