<p>Working at parent's restaurant as a crew member without being paid.</p>

<p>Does this go to extracurricular section on the common app as a volunteering?<br>
Do admission officers think working at parent's restaurant is not as good as working at somewhere else like McDonalds?</p>

<p>I am worrying admission officers are going to think working at parent's restaurant is just helping my parent rather than working.</p>

<p>If I am to put it, should I say worked at local restaurant or my parent's restaurant?</p>

<p>no, it counts as a (unpaid) job. a food industry job is a food industry job, you don’t really need to spin it any way.</p>

<p>It’s a job. You wouldn’t put how much you got paid in the information anyway, so you can legitimately just list it as a part time job held for x hours per week etc. It might also be something you can talk about in interviews - working is a great way to demonstrate responsibility etc.</p>
