So here’s the situation. I have a math test tomorrow and my professor (being the awesome guy he is) let us have a page of notes front and back. I’m sort of iffy on the test since I’ve had a bunch of other stuff going on. Anyways, he gave us a study guide with good explanations and the answers. I was wondering if it would be considered cheating if I use my page of notes and just basically copy down the study guide(with a bit of side notes of my own) for my page of notes allowed on the test. This would benefit me since I forget stuff easily and having a similar question on my notes could really help me refresh some steps that i might have skipped/done incorrectly. I’m taking the exam later than other people since I had another exam during that day that was at the same time. I doubt that he will collect/ look at the notes since he’s a pretty cool guy and wants us to succeed. However, I don’t want him to see my notes and accuse me of cheating either. I had a similar situation in another class and I did the same thing (most people did) and the professor didn’t seem to care. No where does he list that the notes can only be formulas and not include any questions/examples. Should I also just make a page of my own stuff to play it safe? He said that he would provide us with the needed formulas so It would seem pointless to have a page of formulas. Thanks!
I wouldn’t consider it cheating if you’re allowed to have a page of notes and there were no limitations given on what kind of notes they could be.
If there were no restrictions then I wouldn’t consider it cheating either. I know when I was allowed notes in tests I used examples – they’re SO much more helpful than just formulas.
Why not email the professor and check, though, to be sure? You can just ask if there are any restrictions on the notes. When you’re going into a test, the last thing you need is one more thing to be worried about.
