I'm currently taking a semester off school to decide what I'd like to do. Through credits I'm technically a senior and can graduate in one semester, but I'd much rather wait it out if there were a chance I could go to GS. Aside from loving the school, particularly the academics, the specific position I'd like to pursue before grad school is really only available to people coming from Ivies or similar schools (particularly CU since I'd like to work in NYC). It pays handsomely, so that could help mitigate some of the GS debt.

How terrible is this idea? I currently have exactly an A- average and am a URM/LGBT/1st Gen/low SES/etc. SAT/ACT scores are low and a few years old at this point, but I'd be willing to retake or take the GSAE.

And can anyone recommend similar schools that might take someone with my credentials? I really hate my current school, perhaps a bit irrationally, and do not want to have it on my r

GS might take you, but you’d need to write a compelling essay about why.

That’s the question - why? GS only transfers a maximum of 60 credits, towards 124 required for graduation. There’s an elaborate core curriculumn you’d have to fulfill (2 years of a language, literature, social science, humanities, science, etc). On top of that, most departments will accept very few credits toward your major, so whatever you want to major in you’d essentially be starting over from ground zero. You’d be starting over as a sophomore. It would be essentially impossible to finish in less than 2 years, with most students taking 2.5 or 3. GS costs on the order of $60k a year.

GS may be right for you, but I really have to wonder if it’s worth all that?

Arrange a meeting (in person, or on the phone) with a GS admissions rep and see what they say.

Thanks for the reply. I tried to arrange a meeting but was essentially told not to apply. Guess I’ll just finish where I am now and hope for the best. Really disheartening, but thats life.

Yeah, sorry. Good luck! Just think of the $100k you saved?

Why did they say you shouldn’t apply?
