Is this schedule too hard?

COMPSCI 3L
MATH 53
MATH 54
MUSIC 75
SLAVIC R5B

4 units each, 20 units total.

Last semester, I had 13 units:
Freshman seminar - 1 unit (passed it easily)
CHEM 1A (got a B)
ANTHRO 2AC (got an A-)
MATH 1B - (got a B-)

I haven't taken any of those classes, so I guess I can't be of much help, but I would REALLY advise against taking 20 units. I mean, it's 20 units. Doable but pretty undesirable, in my opinion. Especially if you're a freshman...you're not in any particular rush, right? Maybe you could consider dropping 54 and taking it over the summer, or something, if you really want to.

I guess it depends on why you want to take so many units. If it's not necessary to take all of these classes this coming semester, I'd really recommend dropping something.

Any CS course, including CS 3L, takes up a TON of time. Beware.

I think it's doable, but it depends how you handle 54. You may be new to the element of reading and writing proofs, which will exist to an extent in 54. Also, linear algebra is different from the mathematics you've likely been exposed to, so it'll require some effort.

I took an equivalent before college of 53 and 54, and actually took R5B so I have an idea of what this'll be like. If you don't consider yourself a strong math student (I won't judge), please reconsider your schedule.

CS 3L is a very basic course, but still as someone said, CS can be time consuming.

Judging from a low score in 1B solely, I'd recommend dropping 54 for sure though. Maybe you had personal circumstances leading to that, but I'd be careful. People who ace 53 with A+'s, I've seen can do very poorly in 54.

i took 20 units this past semester (including cs3s)...did not go well :(

and i consider myself a strong math student (took 53 equiv in senior year HS at cc and got a B) and 5 on BC but i struggled nonetheless with math, cs, and 2 humanties way too much reading!!

but i dunno, it really depends on how you are with the techs...

@OP GL, invite me to your funeral

It looks doable. CS 3L is a very easy course, and Math 53/54 can be easy or hard depending on the person. I personally thought 54 was easier than 53, but I guess it mostly depends on your professor and/or GSI.

yeah, gonzo could be right. my roomate got a D in math 1a, but found 54 to be incredibly easy.

Who were his professors for those 2 classes?

definetly drop 53 or 54, preferably 54 as its more time consuming than 53, 16 units is a good enough load, gd luck

Maybe the guy who thought his 53 was tougher than his 54 had Givental for 53. That can make things spicy. Anyway as I said, I had done 53 and 54 as equivalents prior to coming to Berkeley, but I know a fair bit about the courses.

Honestly, while I myself look at that schedule at my stage with math right now and don't think it's hard, it could cause a lot of trouble to someone who found 1B hard. 54 can be a tough course for some, depending on what professor you get - if they emphasize linear algebra theory a ton, some find it very hard to adapt. So I think really the deciding factor will be whether 54 just comes naturally to the poster, or if the prof. is particularly easy. I'd drop 54 if I had to drop one of those, given 53 is a smoother transition from the calculus sequences. Hope this helps.
