I have been looking into accounting and it seems like I'd be interested. But I heard that once you get a job and around 50k coming in a year, it's hard to move up and get a raise. Is this true? And if it is are there any other business majors with a good job outlook that pays well?

Any input?

My good friend graduated with master’s in construction management (CEE) and makes 100k a year.

Do you know what the job outlook is like in this?

Job outlook in what field?

Your generalization of accounting being so rigid is too over reaching. Accounting majors go on to MBAs, CPAs, law school, etc. Some are content in whatever niche they find. Plus, there is a spectrum of ability and motivation and drive among accounting majors – that alone should tell you that not every accounting major gets shunted to a forever locked $50K/year job.

My good friend became the bookkeeper of a construction company after graduating from a normal small state school. Now that it’s grown to a multi billion dollar corporation over the last 30 years, he’s now the CFO (with an MAcct from a local business college), and loving his work.

Think about it. This can be stated about most majors, however.

So I should just take that generalization about accounting out of my head?
