I really want to go to the University of Pittsburgh for Civil Engineering. It's my dream school. The only problem is that in order to go there for 4 years I'll end up being in about $70,00-$80,000 of debt when I come out. Is this too much debt or will I be able to get by after college?

Yes.

Anything much more than $25,000ish (4 years of max Staffords) is too much debt. Maybe $30,000 at a stretch, but $70-80,000 is over the top.

Run the numbers for yourself and see how much you’d be shelling out each month. <a href=“Your Guide for College Financial Aid - Finaid”>Your Guide for College Financial Aid - Finaid;

At $80k, you’d owe a skosh under $1,000 per month for the next 10 years.
