Hello there, I have been wondering about this for a while. I have learned how to increase my studying rate (or the rate at which I learn) by a vast amount (about 2 to 5 times faster compared to average this applies to every study, but complex Math/English). I know that may seem like an exaggeration, but from what I’ve seen and experienced, it is every bit true. Anyways relating back to the main question, I know it is not wise to usually take more than 2 majors, but I believe I am a special scenario (not to be cocky, or a overestimate my ability’s) would it be possible to take 3 majors, in subjects that deeply interest me? Thank you for everything, best of luck!
Note:
I have no learning disabilities.
I do not have any intentions of partying or doing any drugs
I have good scheduling, skills etc.
I am not a person who has “no life”, though I do study a lot but, I am quite active/hangout and I am social.
Are you prepared to pay for five or six years of college? Depending on how different the majors are (and if they’re similar, what’s the point?) that can be a heck of a lot of required classes. You can only fit so many credits into a single semester.
The real question is - why? Why would you want to? You could always select a major and then take coursework in the other areas in which you’re interested. Or, if it really benefits you, you could double-major and then take some classes in the third area. But I don’t see any reason for attempting to complete the requirements for three majors. Not being a major won’t prevent you from studying and taking classes in areas you like.
what are your plans after college?
Grad school?
Work?
Double majoring- that’s a personal choice. Triple majoring? That’s pushing it a bit.
If this decision comes with added expenses, then I automatically think it seems like a bad idea. Just take class in those areas, but pursuing a full blown major in more than two fields (again, that’s a personal decision) seems like it would be, almost assuredly, stretching yourself too thin.
@juillet
For the most part, I echo your reasoning.
However, there are some schools where you may be blocked from certain classes if not in the major. Though, to be fair, that mostly happens for impacted majors.
I never considered the pricing, or length my bad. The real reason I want to take 3 majors (besides interest) is a little secret, it will all come to fruition in due time. One thing I was thinking about was, (since I learn best on my own), was just to test out off of all the things that interest me, I don’t have much knowledge on this according to what I have read on this, it a much cheaper way to go through college, and a much quicker one at that. However only local colleges allow for this, not many good ones are available at my area, your thoughts? Thanks.
Perhaps you are still in high school, in which case what I said to gizmojc should apply to you too.
The multiple majors question always seems to come from people who haven’t done any college yet. It reminds me of a very hungry person who has just been admitted to a buffet.
You will have better knowledge of the feasibility, palatability and prudence of a specific college plan for yourself after doing some relevant college courses. College/university is not like high school. Choose one major and firm up your plans (for one or multiple majors) when you have a greater understanding of what you can do, what amount of work you would enjoy doing, and what other things would be a more useful application of your time and effort in the COLLEGE context.
