You might check previous threads. Here is the last that deals with topic:

The Tulane campus and surrounding areas are definitely safe! As are the suburbs of New Orleans.
I wouldn’t venture downtown alone or with a group of people who aren’t familiar with the area.

I live in the suburbs of New Orleans (15 min away from Tulane) and there really isn’t that much crime going on here. Nothing out of the ordinary.
I also commute, and the garages at Tulane are regularly patrolled. I always see multiple officers making rounds around the garage.

Also, you could take a look at this:

I just came back from a week in NOLA while dropping my son off at Tulane. Stick to the St Charles St area and you’ll be fine. We stayed in the warehouse district and walked all over even at night. (ie, a mom and two teenage sons) We walked all over the French Quarter also night and day with never any problem. The streetcars are totally fine and we saw tourists get off at all areas along the line.I am encouraging my S NOT to stay holed up at Tulane but to venture out and enjoy this terrific and hospitable city.

This topic comes around many times. IMO USC is much less “safe”

There are a number of campuses that have more crime in the immediate area than Tulane has in NOLA. Even at these places, the vast majority of students have 4 years without traumatic incident. As has been said ad nauseum on here and elsewhere, no place is 100% guaranteed to be safe (the incidents at Va. Tech., Duke and a few years earlier Chapel Hill being but a few examples at places normally considered “safe”) and the most effective way to be safe is to use common sense and vigilance.

Well, apparently my post # 5 was sadly prophetic http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/1206037-two-students-injured-off-campus-shooting.html

Where were you on Sunday, JYM?
