I have been reading the boards and several other websites, and I am unsure as to whether the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is a "good" school. I was rejected from Northwestern University, and my second choice was Urbana. From posts I have seen, some herald the school as a great institution; in others, it is made out to be just a crappy state school. I know there are a lot of factors used in determining whether a school is "good" or not, but in general, is UIUC a good school, or at least one I won't feel is a dump for kids who didn't get into better schools?

I know it has ranked high on some collegiate charts, but does that really say anything about it?

It’s an excellent school for engineering, and a fairly respectable one for liberal arts. Don’t know about the other colleges, but I believe their business department is similarly prestigious.

I’m uncertain which discipline I want to major in. I’m still going between English, sociology, and maybe linguistics. Is UIUC a school that if I graduate from there, future employers won’t stare blankly at me when they see it on my r

UIUC is a very good school- it is one of the best research universities in the country, and it is well-respected internationally. btw, I have no connection with UIUC (UChicago grad).
