I am from the west coast and am concerned about acclimaiting into the Vandy environment. I have heard that it is tough for those not from the south to get into a good sorority, and that there is a prejudice against non-southerners. Any advice?

Not sure what you mean by a “good” sorority. From what I have been told over 50% of the undergrad women belong to a sorority and that greek life is important on campus.

There are multiple individuals from west coast at Vanderbilt and the campus is very cosmopolitan with individuals from all over. Nashville is a unique city with a wonderful music heritage. The people are very accepting as long as you are not critical of them. Most Southerners like the fact that they are Southerners (and not from the East or West Coast).

I think if you visit the campus while the school is in session you will get a good idea of whether or not you will fit in. I suspect the answer will be yes as it is a wonderful school.

I do know what you mean by good sorority. Kappa has a decent number of girls from the west coast.

I definitely don’t think there’s a prejudice against non-Southerners, lol.
