Generally, it seems to me that most liberal arts colleges have a collaborative vibe. I was just wondering, since Williams is so highly ranked and obviously has strong students, if It feels more competitive or cut throat as a result of having so many high achievers. Or do they work together and cheer on each other’s successes?
IMO:
Williams students are competitive against Amherst during sporting events. They are competitive against other teams of Williams students during All-Night Trivia contests. The overall tone is collaborative in terms of helping one another with classwork and supporting one another through all of their ups and downs!
Classmates and entrymates study together often. There also are a number of classes that have group projects.
Thanks @TheGreyKing - good to hear. Yes, I was talking about the experience on campus among fellow students. I attended undergrad at a school with a famous rivalry, and that was tons of fun for both sides. Still is, actually!
My kids found the campus, students and culture deeply cooperative at all levels – in and out of class, in and out of extracurriculars. The only competition was against Amherst and the rest of the NESCAC.
