@NewYorkerGuy, you also started the Yale event halfway through. When my wife and I are a few time zones apart, our phone calls are awkward (and we’ve been talking to each other for decades). Arriving on the second day is somewhat analogous to my talking to my wife at my lunchtime but her suppertime.

That doesn’t mean that Brown isn’t a better fit for you than Yale; it might well be. Good luck whatever you decide.

I loved BDog days. Maybe it’s because I knew like 40 or 50 people there already (and just chilled with them), but everyone seemed to be the perfect combination of smart and cool. IDK, man. You seem to have missed out. But lol, choose Brown over Yale if you want…

@MikeNY5 What was your experience like? What types of people did you meet?

I had kind of the same reaction to BDD- the crew of 2018 is definitely out there (even the upperclassmen agreed). I was there all three days. I found a small group of kids who all felt the same way as me. If I wasn’t committed I would be having second thoughts, but I’m sure once school starts it’ll be different.

Wow. DS was so energized by BDD I thought he would crackle. It’s been tough enough keeping him semi-engaged in his last few weeks of school, but his thoughts are now entirely on which courses he should sign up for, whether to apply for Directed Studies, do I think he could handle Directed Studies and Math 230 at the same time, etc.

I wasn’t there (I lost the coin toss), but my wife was also very positive about it.

@ellacherie What do you mean by “out there”?

I just found everyone a bit on the immature side, however, I think a lot of it for me is I kind of stopped trying after the second day. As in, all of Wednesday until Peter’s Salovey’s address, me and my friend just wandered all the buildings on campus. I think after a little bit into the school year it’ll be a lot better, and it probably didn’t help that the main attraction Wednesday night was the frat party for a lot of kids. When we start in August, the whole first week is exactly like BDD so we can get a repeat.
I wouldn’t really let BDD effect how you judge Yale, but if you liked another school better, don’t hold out just because it’s ‘Yale’ either.

@IxnayBob — I would NOT recommend math 230 + DS for anyone’s first semester in college. haha. Glad to hear your son had a good time.

@litotes, DS is coming to the same conclusion. I’m surprised how excited he is about Directed Studies; I would have bet that Math 230 would be the keeper, but who knows? Nice problem to have as a parent :)>-

@ellacherie That sounds like a lot of fun! I definitely think that the immature people that you met at BDD will “grow up” once they get to Yale.
