ISL schools - differences between them

Can anyone help with better defining the personalities of the different schools (preppie, jockey, ultra-competitive...).

I was particularly interested in Roxbury Latin, BBN, Nobles, Milton, Thayer, St Sebs. Rivers.

I’m not sure if this still helps you, but anyway, here goes

Roxbury Latin- Definitely ultra-competative. Plenty of extremely smart kids and if I had to pick, it is closer to ‘nerdy’ rather than ‘jockey’. That’s not to say that they aren’t good at sports, the still have plenty of success. I don’t think it’s on the preppier side compared to some of the other schools you have listed.

BBN- Also a competitive school, but not as competitive as RL. From what I have heard, it is on the preppier side and does not have a jock culture.

Nobles-One of the most preppy school’s you’ll find. You can tell just based on how the kids look. There is a lot of wealth there, so a ‘culture of the privileged’ is prevalent. Is fantastic both academically and athletically. There is a bit of a jock culture, but not overwhelming. It also has a great arts program that many people don’t know about and all the kids are very competitive with one another.

Milton- A similar culture to Nobles. The difference is the larger boarding program that Milton has, and that often causing tension between day on boarder students. I hear that the student body isn’t very unified, but it is still a great school

Thayer- I believe it is more of a jock culture that the aforementioned schools. It also is not as competitive. I don’t think it’s very preppy.

St. Sebastian’s- It has an overwhelming jock culture, more so that Thayer. This is in part because of the fact that it is all boys. It is very competitive in sports but not so much in academics. Not as much of a privileged culture as say Milton or Nobles. Not very preppy.

Rivers- This is the school’s culture I know least about. I believe it is preppy and not very competitive. It is pretty good at sports.

Hope this helps, if you want to know anything about the other 9 schools in the ISL you can just ask.

@tim3423 I’m not sure where you heard about Milton having some sort of day-boarder clash, but I can assure you it doesn’t exist. I’ve been at Milton for 3 years, and day students and boarders have always mixed well.

Milton is definitely more preppy, but we have our set of jocks too, hockey recruits, football players, lax bros, etc.
