<p>The comparison would be easier to understand if you list the net price after applying financial aid grants (not loans) and merit scholarships against the list price. Also, with merit scholarships, take note if any have minimum college GPAs to retain them. It is common for a 3.0 to be required to maintain the scholarships, but some require higher GPAs like 3.5 (which would require GPA management like a pre-med).</p>
<p>Last few financial aid letters are in and son has made decision.</p>
<p>Son with 3.38 GPA (unweighted) and 2010 SAT superscored (720 CR / 680 M / 610 W). Class rank in upper 25%. 14 Honors and AP courses. Excellent Music EC (Multiple Honors), Sports (Track), Key Club President, Community Service, 3 years of part-time employment. Will pursue Mechanical Engineering degree.</p>
