The choice is Iowa State U vs Valparaiso U for engineering…which would you choose? Biggest difference is size?
You’ve given too little information regarding budget and what you care about to give any useful feedback. What is the cost difference? Will it compromise or stress your family in any way? What hobbies do you have? What made you apply to each of them?
All that said, Iowa State is a great program for training engineers. It’s not often that your undergraduate institution will have a national lab, but they do. Size has big benefits especially in facilities and depth of curriculum. You may not want a larger school though.
I would add, looking at the webpages, that Iowa State has many more engineering majors. So does Valpo have your specific field?
Also Valpo is religious. I believe a few classes are required but I couldn’t locate it on the website.
And Iowa state will have big 12 sports if that’s something you seek.
If everything for you is equal then ISU is the better program if it’s affordable. If you were able to qualify for all the merit they give it might actually be affordable.
They also have one of the largest engineering fairs. Many students I have known over the years have had multiple job offers.
Also the school has tons of team spirit that will rival nationally known teams and they travel well.
If you give more information on what your looking for in a school that might help.
I’d go to ISU. Valparaiso is having budget problems so a lot of Engineering profs left.
