I had no idea this was the case but I was looking through the UCLA transfer admissions statistics page and I looked at the stats from 2011 and 2014. 2011 was a harder year to transfer.
I’ll use Philosophy as an example. In 2011, 421 people applied as a philosophy major while in 2014, only 298 people applied. avg.GPA admitted in 2014 was 3.57 while it was 3.60 in 2011.
Do you think that’s just coincidental, or did it seem to be substantially more difficult all around the board?
I think it’s overall. Each year leading up to 2014 was a bit easier than the year prior. Less people have been applying and the admittance rate and avg GPA admitted have gone down for virtually all majors.
Aspects of an application, other than GPA, are heavily considered more nowadays than the previous years.
Also, the economy has an influence on transfer applicants. MOst transfer applicants are working and when the economy is not so good, more prospective applicants put more time into work.
