If you have time the inside of that synagogue is spectacular.
THANKS for the timely tip.
Darn… they are not open tomorrow/Sunday, and we leave early Monday. Too bad… photos do look lovely. I assume tickets are easy to get usually, and only 6.50euro
What about gelato???
Gelato report:
- Thurs night (arrival) - too tired after train travel, pizza only
- Friday - tiramisu at cooking class, pistachio gelato at night
- Saturday - Limon gelato after Florentine steak dinner
- Sunday - TBD finale
We are still undecided about our Tuscany stop between Florence airport and Rome airport (rental car Monday adventure). Have done a few email inquiries at wineries but were unwilling to do a no-refund reservation.
Sunday morning we will visit Academie museum (David statue).
To my fitness friends, I had 17,551 steps today. That about ties my former record, using pocket pedometer in 2012… on our Florence shore excursion day of Western Med cruise (Norwegian).
So we wonder if this upcoming strike has caused taxi slowdown. Unfortunately strike starts Monday, when we need to get to airport for rental car pickup… considered workaround plan to pick up car tonight, but no vacant parking spots at hotels.
@Colorado_mom , a year ago tomorrow we traveled from Paris to Florence. I loved your pics! Here was our view from our hotel.
After Florence, our Tuscany visits were stays in Montalcino and Sienna and a day visit to Pienza. Anyplace you go there is a winner.
Beautiful!
PHEW - the hotel clerk was able on Sunday evening to get through to the taxi reservations to arrange 9am pickup to the airport. We took it to airport and rented a car for one day. (Not cheap - $250euro, one way to Rome. But we split across two couples.)
Tuscany was lovely. We made 2 winery stops:
-
Near Siena, as suggested by @gandalf78. It was a lovely place. Unfortunately we did not know our schedule well enough to reserve tasting/lunch ahead, but our friends tasted/bought some wine (and olive oil and balsamic vinegar) to ship home.

Toward the coast, we checked off bucket list item to taste wines on a terrace in Tuscany

Thanks for all the help and hints on my trip. Hope it helps somebody else. My mantra about traveling - we’ll never be as young as we are today, so seize the moment.
Beautiful, Colorado_mom! Glad you are enjoying!
Such a good mantra re:travel/life!
