Ithaca BFA acting

Hey, so applied to Ithaca as an MT but was admitted as an BFA acting major insted. I dont really know that much about thier acting program but I wanted to see if anyone was well informed. Do you think I would be happy as an acting major and would I be able to still take classes in voice and dance??

Also.... does anyone have an opinion or information about their very frequent evaluations/ cut program?

Thanks!!!

Congratulations to you on your achievement!

My daughter’s friend from our region has a MT background and applied to BFA in MT programs and his acceptance ended up to be at Ithaca for the BFA in Acting and he went there and is now a senior about to graduate from Ithaca. I know he has continued to take voice and dance there and has been in musicals there. You may wish to talk to current students.

Ithaca doesn’t have a “cut program,” per se. Instead, they have (and please check this to make sure I am accurate, as I am middle aged and working from memory here!) sophomore evals, at which time students either continue in the BFA track or are moved to the BA track, which includes more liberal arts classes. I believe (and again, check this, though I think it’s right!) that kids who end up in the BA program (either by choice – some end up wanting more liberal arts – or because of evals) cannot take some of the upper level acting classes. I think it works roughly the same way at Syracuse.

I also believe that if you fail your sophomore evals, you do get another chance, but I don’t know the details of how that happens. Again, check with Lee Byron’s office.

The acting BFA program at Ithaca has a very, very fine reputation.

Thanks this program sounds great… and if there are any students you might know who attend Ithaca I would love to hear from them. The more insight the better

Last year, admitted students got to create profiles on the Ithaca site (the college site) and talk together. You might try doing that. Also, do some searching through the drama and musical theater threads and you should find stuff other kids have posted. There might even be a facebook group for last year’s admitted class: maybe you can contact some of them.
