for anyone interested, I went to the MT summer program; for me it was GREAT. I do know that the teacher, Arno Selco (who, by the way, is amazing and talented and such a great guy) is retiring this year so this will most likely be the last summer of MT summer college things (but dont quote me on that). The focus is definately on acting, it's pretty much a 3-week long, intense workshop on acting an audition song. It taught me a lot; I don't have much experience so I don't know if those with more experience felt like it was less useful.
For more info, PM me!

Hi- no one has posted on this thread in two years so hoping that maybe there are people out there who might have an update or have experienced Ithaca Summer Program since then that can post info here. If you have gone or know of the quality of the program, please post! Thanks!

My daughter has been accepted into this program and I was hoping to get some feedback as well. Any info would be so appreciated. Thanks!

My daughter is looking for a MT program for this summer and Ithaca is one that she is looking into. Lesmizmom and cassie22, did either of your children attend the program and what did they think? Also, did he/she have prior experience? My D goes to a performing arts high school and needs a strong program. I am a little worried about the Ithaca program because they only do MT for 3.5 hours per day. I do however like that the student receives 3 college credits. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

3 daughters - my daughter is also considering for this summer. What did you decide? ANy word from Lesmizmom or cassie22? Please tell us more about the summer program.

Did your daughter attend the summer MT program last year? My daughter really wants to improve her auditioning skills and thought this would help her, but the camp is not very intensive/only 3.5 hours per day. Does the camp work on singing skills?

Ithaca Summer music academy is their pre-college summer program, with a musical theatre workshop.
It actually just finished yesterday, but I would absolutely recommend it to anyone considering MT at ithaca college

I attended Ithaca’s Summer Program in 2011 and found it to be very helpful especially right before college auditions. While it is not as rigorous as compared to others, it is not in any sense “easy” or any less challenging. It all revolves around acting through the song, and really provides students with the tools of how to go about approaching a new song/character. The 3 week workshop gave me an awesome feel of what the program was like, while providing me with the confidence and tools to go into audition season. If you have any more specific questions about the program, feel free to let me know!

I don’t see anything on the Ithaca Summer Program website about classes in dance or movement, yet it says it is an MT program. So is the program all acting through song, or are there other components to the program? It sounds like a program my D could really benefit from, but we also need her to work on dance this summer.

Dance was the one thing that we didn’t really focus on. As you may know Ithaca is one of the only schools (and I’m pretty sure the only “Top Tier” MT school) that does not require a dance audition; I think this may be why it is not emphasized in the summer program. However, almost all the kids that were enrolled with me were big dancers, and one of the kids actually organized a class we could all participate in 2-3 times a week just to work on basic technique, across the floor, barre work, and learn a combo. There were also several dance majors at the college that were on hand and would come to the classes as well! The studios were highly accessible and available for students to dance. So although I am not really a dancer myself and didn’t go to the summer program for dance, I still got a fair amount of training from it, and there are other ways to get some dance experience out of it.

I went to the MT summer program at Ithaca and it was one of the best experiences in my life! the professor was great and really worked individualy with everyone. i HIGHLY recommend it! :)

Hey! I just happened to find this thread while looking for something else. I attended the Ithaca Summer College program, not for Musical Theater but for straight acting. However, many of my friends were in the musical theater program and they loved it! They left with so much knowledge and had nothing but great things to say about it. So if you’re considering, I’d definitely say apply because it was without a doubt three of the absolute best weeks of my life and theirs.
