Transferring

Hi! I’m , as my username indicates, lol, hoping to transfer to Ithaca for MT next year as a member of the class of 2015. I’m a first year right now at a public university. While I do like it there, I just can’t shake my dreams of attending Ithaca or NYU. Is it even reasonable to apply - does Ithaca take transfers? Also, what should I be doing this year to prepare for these auditions? Over the summer, should I attend a camp like BTP or BAA? Or should I spend it doing shows? I’ve already decided on my audition song choices - one is legit, one is belty. Any advice? I really am not ready to let go of this dream yet and want to be very prepared.

My D is auditioning at a variety of schools to transfer into MT. We found in our search that nearly all schools “allow transfers” and it is really a question of how many years it will take to finish- 4? or fewer? Some said she would have to go for 4 years regardless, and some said she would have to wait until after admission to find out how long it would take to finish. Of the colleges we called, there was only place we that flat out said they do not take transfers and won’t let transfers audition even as a freshman.

You can definitely transfer into Ithaca College’s MT program! But know that you will most likely have to start as a freshman. It is definitely recommended that you take all four years to go through the process properly as prescribed by the department and take advantage of every opportunity that can be afforded to you in each year of study here. If the college takes the credits you’ve earned from your current institution, then you will probably be able to skip some if not all of the gen ed requirements, but that would be about all the difference between your process and that of a student matriculating as a freshman. Hope this helps!
