No, it does not.

There is no set cut policy. However, like in many programs, there is a review process to assess the students' progress and such. For the BFA acting and MT majors, the review process (now called "presentations" apparently to sound less scary) happens several times during the freshman and sophomore years. During the first year, we are assessed once each semester on scenes that we have prepared in Scene Study. Second semester, the MTs also have a singing review. Sophomore year, there are four presentations, two each semester. I believe the singing review is also on the last round. After each presentation, each student has a private meeting with his/her Scene Study teacher in which they discuss the student's progress and things that should be improved. If the faculty feel that a student is not growing, or if he/she's having any other problems (such as not coming to class, coming late, bad attitude), then the student will typically be warned and asked to take into consideration what he/she needs to improve. If the faculty consistently doesn't see changes, then the student might be discontinued. It's not as if there is a quota that they must meet, and of course the teachers want everyone to stay and succeed in the program. Sometimes, though, this sort of thing does occur. Also, the review process is not only for the performance majors, but for most (if not all, I'm not entirely sure) of the different majors within the department of theatre arts, including tech/design majors.

Don't let the review process worry you, though. If you do your work, you probably wouldn't have anything to worry about.

Has anyone here already auditioned for Ithaca?
On their website it says that, "Ithaca follows a modified rolling admission review process and begins notifying candidates of decisions in January."

I auditioned and finished my application in December and I still haven't recieved a decision.
Is this normal?

Thanks

do you dance at the audition????

Ithaca does not have a dance audition.

what kind of performers does Ithaca generally look for?

Has anyone recieved an acceptance letter from Ithaca yet?

i know of four people who have been accepted, but none of them post on this forum.

Hello!
(I'm a HS senior, posting under my mom's username)! I am desperately trying to decide between Ithaca and Arizona's BFA musical theatre programs. I have debated back and forth for hours the pros and cons of each school, and find myself getting nowhere!! Each has its perks and setbacks, and I really cannot decide. Cost, location, training, preparation, connections, travel convenience (I'm from southern california), and the fact that my best friend also got into Arizona's program are all factors! If ANYONE could PLEASE give me any and all advice, i would be so grateful. Thank you so much!

I know nothing about Arizona's perogram, so I can't help you there. You mentioned a number of factors that you are weighing, as you should. Have you also considered the climate? Being from SoCal, the cold and snow of Ithaca might come as a shock to you--on the other hand, you may welcome the change. Good luck to you!

I live in Ithaca (I am a rising senior) and am planning on trying for MT in college, possibly at Ithaca.

As a resident of Ithaca, I can say that Ithaca is a small town, but has a nicely sized college community. It is a beautiful town and it would be much further up on my list of schools had I not lived here for 17 years of my life.

For those of you who are either planning on visiting, auditioning or attending IC, a fun place to check out is Purity Ice Cream. It's a local business in downtown Ithaca and has fantastic ice cream, a nice break perhaps from stressful college thinking! Even in the fall I would suggesst checking it out, they serve hot chocolate, coffee, and other desserts besides ice cream. Ask any local Ithacan and they will gladly point you in the right direction!

Enjoy and if anyone has questions about Ithaca in general, let me know. I don't know that much about the college, but I'd be happy to answer questions about the town itself.
