It's deadline day, so let's have a countdown

The Columbia people get their decisions on Thursday...I'm jealous.:p Not that 4 more days is that much longer to wait.

Ahhh! Two of my really good friends applied to Columbia ED. I am pretty jealous too... haha. Over breakfast this morning my mom said to me, "This is an exciting week!" I reminded her that we don't find out until next Monday. She replied, "I am hoping it'll come early." So... nervous...!

I'm going to be so jealous when all of the December 11th people start talking about their decisions on Friday...ugh...I so hope we all get good news on Monday (or hopefully before!).

Less than a week =) =) =) =) =) =) =) =) =) =)

To you experienced students/parents:

Just to confirm, the decisions come by mail, presumably mailed on the 15th, so the answers will get in the mailbox some time after that?

And they don't call, or post it on-line. They only mail a hardcopy packet or "you are wonderful, but no thank you letter"?

Does anyone know for sure if the acceptance come by FedEx and the "no letter" comes by US Mail?

Enquiring minds want to know lol.....

Barnard has not done e-mail or phone notifications about admissions and I don't expect them to start now. :) sorry... The exception to this is for international students who will receive an e-mail acceptance, and likely will be among the very first to know.

The acceptances have, in the past, been sent via Express Mail (not FedEx) and the thin envelopes via regular post.

I almost hate to say this, but I suspect they will send the letters out before the 15th...don't count on it, but in the past (at least the 4 years I have been paying attention to the process), they have sent admissions stuff out on Thursday or Friday, not on Monday, I believe. I could be very wrong, though (it's happened once or twice!), so please don't yell at me if I am wrong. And plan on doing something fun and/or very intensive this weekend to occupy your time "just in case".

Best to you all! I feel your pain! I am waiting for my d to hear about grad schools.....

Wow, seems like a bummer that the "ins" get an express envelope and the "rejects" get a slow-boat-to-China-snail-mailer.

Why even bother inserting a letter in something like that?

My personal feeling (as if they're going to pay attention) is that all responses (acceptances, deferrals, rejections) should be mailed at the same time, in the same format. Otherwise it's just.....unkind.

On the facebook for ED applicants last year, some people who received the thin envelopes got theirs on the same day as the accepted students. You just never know, I guess.

Regular mail gets here from NY in about 2 days (the amount of time express mail is supposed to take), so it doesn't make much difference for the east coast, though it is kind of cruel for the west coast.

i wish they would post it online, but oh well...

i live on the west coast, so i guess for us here we'll just have to be extra patient.

!!!

6 days!!! I know one thing for sure, I'm not going to have any trouble keeping myself busy over the next six days (though the wait is still just as brutal).

But it does seem like the days are going by quickly.
I remember just last week we were saying two weeks left and how hard that had been!

:)

Just reading this thread gives me such bad butterflies...

I was reading threads on fb and cc from last year, and supposedly they sent them on the 11th, which was a saturday. Maybe they'll send it out this saturday as well? It also seemed like most people received them from the 14th-17th depending on where they lived.

It feels like yesterday that I just submitted my app, and now I can't believe we're about to hear back so soon!

It kind of feels like yesterday to me that I was reading last year's ED thread as they got acceptances, thinking about what it would be like a year from then. Now that time has come...

Wait, rose, I'm pretty sure the 15th was a Saturday last year and the 11th was a Tuesday. Maybe that was from a few years ago?

I think I remember last year's EDers talking about them sending them on the 13th.

So I did a little research through the archives...

Postmark dates:
2004 - December 13th (Monday), December 15th was a Wednesday (I think this was when there was some talk of them mailing them Saturday the 11th, but it didn't turn out to be true)
Can't find 2005...
2006 - December 14th (Thursday), December 15th was a Friday
2007 - December 13th (Thursday), December 15th was a Saturday

2008 - we'll see in a few days!

Based on this, I still think we're looking at a December 12th/13th (if they work on Saturdays it could be 14th) mailing date and 14th, 15th, 16th notification.

Edit, sorry about my typo in the last part, I meant that maybe it would be the 13th if they work on Saturdays, not the 14th.

fhg.....inhale.....exhale......repeat.

Thank you for the research!

I really hope it's not a 16th or later notification.
I'll be literally hysteric.

=/
haha

you're very good at researching! I have faith that the letters will come on Monday.
