It's *much* more difficult to be admitted in MIT rather than in Harvard?

Looking at the stats in the site, I do think that MIT is much more competative as a whole, too. This is especially valid for CompSci/Engineering. Is this right?

Not necessarily. Because admissions is holistic, MIT kids may have inferior ECs and essays than Harvard kids. Don't quote me on this, but MIT may place more of an emphasis on standardized test scores because on their website they say that they want to know if you'll be able to handle the rigourous math and science requirements of an MIT education.

Definitely false. much easier to get admitted into MIT for a science/math oriented person.

for a well-rounded person, I'd say it's about the same.
for those skewed toward science/math - definitely MIT is far easier.

I'm really not too sure. I mean, it would be more difficult for the star future English major to be admitted to MIT, but those kids don't usually apply to MIT anyway -- the applicant pool is self-selected for kids who are passionate about science and engineering.

thisSHHHisBANANAs, MIT actually does place quite a bit of weight on extracurricular activities. Preparation for the rigor of an MIT courseload is assessed more from the difficulty/performance of a student's high school coursework rather than standardized test scores.

At any rate, it may be about equally difficult on average to be admitted to both MIT and Harvard, but it's definitely more difficult to be at school at MIT on a day-to-day basis...

i agree, my bro got in MIT and not Harvard.
he was the olypiad physics and math team for New Zealand.
but its ironic that he got in Harvard Law school afterwards.

I think it is easier to get into MIT, but tough nonetheless

Harvard has like 22,000 applicants while MIT has around 10,000-11,000

question. Does it MATTER? Apply where u want. If u like both then apply to both. The caliber of the applicants for both schools are pretty much the same, the accepted ones i mean.

Right, but MIT is smaller.
