Its routine to receive acceptance with no fin aid offer yet, right?

The title pretty much says it all - D has received an acceptance with no mention of financial aid - how much later does that usually come along? I figure at this point they wouldn't know what to offer other than merit aid, as their financial aid forms are not due for months and of course FAFSA will be filed very soon.

Well if you haven't filled out financial aid forms, there's no way they can get you your packet. Are you sure that the aid deadline that you saw wasn't for regular decision?

Yeah..I confused the regular and Early financial aid deadlines and sent the financial aid documents nearly a week after the deadline. But generally, the financial aid and acceptance letters come in the same packet...

It varies all over the place.

Some schools will send merit awards before any financial forms are filled out (in fact, some schools do not require any forms to be filled out for those non-need based awards).

Some schools will send merit awards with their acceptance letters, some will come later (days, weeks, or months later).

It's probably too early for most schools to be sending notices on need-based packages, because the forms aren't filed out yet. However, there are exceptions even to that. Some schools (eg. Purdue) will have send you an estimate if you fill out their form.

Your best bet is to either call the school or keep an eye on the individual school's forum and see when other kids are being notified.

The school that I applied to ED was supposed to send the financial aid a week after the admissions decision.

Some schools have a separate finaid form to fill out and return, in addition to the FAFSA and/or profile, that may be due son after you apply.
And also make sure when you check deadlines you are looking at are the ones for incoming freshman - many schools have earlier deadline for them - Feb for freshman, April for those kids already there.
