Unless their computers are in the stone age, the decisions will be uploaded to a database. The site will stay operational and a decision will be added to each applicants record based on their student/application ID. This can be done in real time without any website interruption.

The bigger problem will be website slowness because this is probably going to be one of the busiest days of the year for their website. We all will need to be patient while everyone tries to learn their decision within a very short window.

@crewdad - Just did a little timestamp test. If I keep it at Eastern time zone and I post now it says 10:58 and post #80 says 10:03. If I change it to Pacific time, my post changes to 7:58 and post #80 changes to 7:03. So, it seems that if I see a post at 11:04 a.m. when I have my clock set to Eastern time zone, then that is the time it was posted in the Eastern time zone. In any event, we could find out at the end of the day on Thursday or before.

I’m not sure what is transpiring with your computer, but I still maintain that for myriad reasons timestamps are irrelevant. If you look at the timestamps from last year’s ED11 posts (and assuming that your computer is set to EST) you’ll notice that with an anticipated 5 PM EST notification that the posters projected hours until notification do not correlate with their timestamps.

I can, with a fair amount of certainty, guarantee that the results will not be posted until after the admission office has switched their phones to the recorded message at the close of the business day. There’s a very good reason for following that procedure. :)

What are you planning on doing leading up to checking the decision? Last year, for RD decisions, I was on school vacation, so I spent two hours browsing '60s Spiderman memes, and another day I marathoned two seasons of Sherlock… Unfortunately, it looks like I’ll be working right before this decisions comes out:/

@Jpaulcus Yeah last year, at least for the colleges to which I was accepted, I received an email saying “Hey! Your decision is available online!” (well, not literally…) and I had to check the portal to see the actual decision. I think I usually go a congratulatory email the next week and a letter within the next day or two.

And the countdown begins…I just wanted to let y’all know I really hope everyone is admitted and I will be posting my stats and all even if rejected. Best of luck!

I know it doesn’t help but please remember that most successful people in the world did NOT go to Vassar. As my 17 year old sardonic daughter pointed out last night, however, that isn’t much consolation for getting your dreams crushed.

@wherezwallace oh I completely agree - as many others have said, it’s about what you do at the college and what you do with your education that matters, not (at least to a degree anywhere near the latter) the college where you obtain that education. :)

That’s especially true if you’re applying to grad school (generally).

@oscar63 “At the close of the business day” (they sent out an email). This means around 5. Surely enough, this thread will probably go crazy as soon as decisions are released, so you’ll know then. :)

@oscar63 As an applicant myself, I’m really happy that you’re supporting your daughter’s friend - for me, my best friend’s parents were the best people to talk to about the process because they had the wisdom of parents minus the nagging of my own parents, haha (not that the nagging isn’t deserved, but it’s nice to not have that for a bit ^.^)
