I wanted to refresh the Kelley petition thread from last year for this year.
For prospective Kelley students who don’t meet the criteria, keep in mind that the only thing that Kelley considers for petitions are:
High school performance (grades, rigor in the context of your school, class rank)
Test scores (if available)
Provided essays
Typically most competitive petitions exceed the direct admission criteria in either test scores or GPA. For instance, a student might have a 3.9 GPA or 32 ACT.
No other supplementary materials are considered, so if you have something else to share with Kelley then make sure to include it in the respective essay.
The middle 50% of approved petitions for fall 2020 were:
GPA: 3.70 to 4.0
SAT superscore (Math and Evidence-Based Reading & Writing): 1290 to 1390
ACT superscore (Composite): 28 to 32
Also, there was a 65% petition acceptance rate last year.
I petitioned 11/3/2020,
Stats are below. What do you think my chances are?
3.87 GPA
1360 SAT
I was unable to make the direct admit, but would love to attend IU Kelley. Also, I submitted my regular Application about 1.5 weeks ago, and no update
Submitted application 10/29. Received an email today that they have the application, but no student number or instructions to set up a portal. Does that come in another week? Does the Kelley appeal process require more essays, or do they just read the supplement submitted with the Common App?
I submitted my petition on September 24th and still have not heard anything back. I petitioned with a 4.2 GPA and a 1350 SAT score. I received admission to IU on October 12th.
Any idea of when I should receive my petition decision back?
@NYCDad26 The petition process has two essay questions with up to around a 200-250 word count. You will need to look up the Kelley petition online and it will prompt you with application to petition.
Question about the second question on the petition (special circumstances). Is it ok to leave it blank or just say none? I feel its like the Common App Covid questions-unless you have been particularly affected, leave it blank. Appreciate thoughts.
