I've been rejected for every internship I've applied so far.

MaineLonghorn…what forum is that thread located under? Still not great at finding some of these things…

MyCollegeKid, here’s the link: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/engineering-majors/1009332-co-op-internship-possibilities.html

If you are willing to do so, try looking at co-ops that occur during a regular Fall or Spring semester. If you do so, you are likely to face less competition. Also often times with engineering companies, once you “get in” with a company, said company will make a strong effort to rehire you for other internships or even a full-time position. This was my exact story, and I am now in a great position when compared to other classmates with similar credentials.

Will someone be kind enough to review my resume? Of course I will omit some things, but I just checked this week’s rounds of interviews to find out that I was not invited to any. :/

You can PM it to me. Please include your email address, as… if I have significant comments, it is easier to respond in Word.

You can omit identifying information if you like, but I would like to see the exact format etc.

I am a parent and Moderator, so not competing with you, lol :). So you can safely PM the whole thing to me if you are comfortable

In addition to the resume, which I am happy to look at (per above), you need to look at every other aspect.

What did you wear to the expo? (I’m assuming you met recruiters - at least briefly - while there). What are your talking points when you meet someone at a Career Fair?

I second the suggestion that you do mock interviews, and take advantage of all other Career Services help, including guidance on how to present yourself at job fairs etc.

Not saying you did any of these things badly, but you should check all aspects of what might be holding you back.

Keep the faith. It will happen.

I would not share any personal information with anyone on an internet forum, even without your name or address, it wouldn´t be hard for people to figure out.

It does sound like you need to have someone look at your resume because you are not getting any interviews. I would go to your career center first, get someone there to help you out (that´s what they do for a living). Just because you are a chemical engineering major, it doesn´t mean you only need to work in that field. If you should decide to look outside of engineering, it is sometimes helpful to have different resumes for different types of work.

I don´t know the breakdown of your GPA. If your GPA is higher for your major, then you could show your major´s GPA on your resume instead of overall GPA.

There are many ways of describing your job experience. As an example…I was working with a student who had done mostly clerical, hourly work, but he wanted a job in finance/accounting. He had a job working at a mobile phone store as a cashier. But then I found out he created a whole inventory system(front end and a database) for the owner. He also came up with a package deal(marketing) to attract new students. He did all of that outside of his regular work. So we changed his job description and listed those projects on his resume. It showed he is a person to take initiative, goes beyond and above, and able to do a project from end to end.

On your resume, also list all relevant courses. If you want to work in business, then list some finance and accounting courses on that resume, likewise for engineering jobs (more technical courses).

If you know of some adults (family friends, or friend´s parents), ask them to look over your resume and do some mock interviews with. Better still, ask them to help you with getting interviews.

You are not that late in getting an internship. A lot of companies recruit after the holidays.

Good luck.
