and congrats @wonderlanddd !
She and her friends already use that term.
And at least in D’s case, it’s not because she believes that admission into any highly selective college is guaranteed, but it just means relative ranking of one school to another, and specifically for her intended major, which is slightly different from what a consensus ranking might be.
Yeah, I applied to all 8 for their financial aid and opportunities - I could care less who judges me. Any ivy and a few of the other top 20 schools I applied to will make college incredibly affordable for my parents!
@hebegebe Well encourage her not to use that term. It’s extraordinarily pretentious. Ivy leagues consider character in their applications. If she’s in it for the rankings or the name, that will be very evident. The Ivy League is just an athletic conference. I encourage you to find some way to let your daughter look at the data (not ranking, SAT score, or acceptance rate) and information about each of her prospective schools without actually seeing the name so that she can find the right school without seeing an elite name. Remember, she has to be there for four years and while you’re there, the name means nothing. She should make sure to enjoy her time and find the right fit.
Actually, @CaliCash , it’s just the opposite. She is quite capable of understanding the rankings and also realizing that she can get a fine education at a number of schools. The top ranked Ivy in her major is actually fairly low on her list, even though she did research there with a professor last summer and and will again this summer. The reason: It’s too close to home. And my earlier posts on this topic show that we are looking at several schools outside the Ivy League.
Is “Ivy Day” the same day every year?
@Ahmeda14960 Nope – it can shift year to year. It hovers near the end of March. Sometimes even April 1.
Indeed, over time, it’s shifted. While rummaging through some papers, I found the accept letter from my Ivy alma mater. It was dated April 14 and I received it (via USPS) on April 19th! No online notification for me, the dinosaur. Imagine that!
Imagine not hearing for another +3 weeks!
@T26E4 - That’s horrifying!
@T26E4 Where did you go, if you don’t mind me asking?
I just recall that I screwed up one of my essays for yale… I was writing about a friend and me and changed the friend’s name in the last para (because I was talking about my Auntie and my friend was called Annie so I changed it to Jess omg). While i sent in a message through the yale online applicant portal to explain, I have a feeling I won’t be getting a yes from Yale… -_- ehh
T26E4’s avatar is the Jonathan Edwards avatar at Yale.
Go JE! Go Bulldogs!
Boola boola! My brother was in saybrook. My boyfriend was in Branford.
Applied to 7 (didnt apply to Brown). Already got into Columbia as an Egleston Scholar. Really hoping for UPenn M&T. Best of luck guys!
Applied to all 8. I’ve received a likely letter from Brown.
I originally decided to apply to all the Ivies because it was sort of a goal from when I was little, but after doing more research into the schools as I was applying, I realized just how fantastic these schools are… Especially in the financial aid department!
Applied to 3 (Penn, Dartmouth, Harvard)
Feeling discouraged after being wailisted by UVa and rejected by MIT and Stanford. Best of luck to everyone!
In what order do you guys plan to open your letters on the 31st?
From impossible to highly improbable. First Harvard, then Dartmouth, then UPenn.
Princeton, Dartmouth, Yale, and Harvard.
Harvard, then, Columbia, Penn, Cornell, and finally Princeton
