Dartmouth actually seemed nice to me, but I didn’t want to add another college. (it actually seemed nicer, environment-wise, than UPenn, which is too preprofessional for me.)
@Faultystart They’re all released at the same time, so I think @y90y90 meant more of “do you have a certain way of deciding the order?” Like for me, I’m opening the ones that I feel are complete rejections first haha Ex: Harvard, Princeton, and Yale are first!
I’m looking in order of least wanted to most wanted (Yale, Penn, and then Columbia) but don’t get me wrong i want to get into all of them (i can dream right?)
@DreamforIvy i know that–i’m not stupid. i’ll be opening them in the order i get emails about decisions and stuff.
@binky17 I’m not sure who you were specifically talking to but sadly I just didn’t know a lot about Dartmouth to feel like I should have applied… I was originally just going to apply to Princeton, Columbia, Harvard, and maybe Penn because I really liked Princeton at the time I did SCEA and I also wanted to be in a city cause I hope to major in poli sci or like international relations… one of my teachers ended up talking about her time at Brown and I fell in love with it and I just decided to apply to Yale on a whim lol but don’t expect to get in. I applied to Cornell cause I have family in the area and it would be nice to go to school near some familiar faces and also it’s a great school. All of the ivies are amazing and there are tons of other great schools too. I kinda regret not applying to Dartmouth but I guess I just didn’t know enough about it during application season…
Thanks for your response @mackyg. Good luck to you!
Thanks @emli8100 and no offense taken! I am only a parent of an applicant and am just curious. Good luck!
My kid is applying to one (Cornell). He won’t get in.
also, fwiw, my kid’s friend received a likely letter from Columbia last Saturday…but not sure how rare these are.
Thanks @scarletwitchx. I understand not wanting to add another school. Good luck!
Likely letters are rare for anyone to get. If anyone here got one, congrats, and to those who didn’t–don’t lose hope–you’ll see your results for sure March 30th
@SouthernHope he won’t get in???
Are you guys going to open your decisions at home or at school (I live on the West Coast so I find out at 2 PM here).
@ANormalSeniorGuy they first come as email, then in the mail too - at least that’s from columbia
ive read stories about schools calling you to tell you about a likely letter - that seems pretty cool
@emli8100 I’ve always figured it’s never a good idea to open your decisions at school. Even if you’re super happy, it comes off as annoying to other people, and I’m not just saying that as a hypothetical. During ED when a few people opened their decisions at school, classmates reacted negatively.
I applied to 5. Brown, Columbia, Cornell, UPenn, and Yale (deferred EA). Would people mind chancing me as well?
@Faultystart You need to relax lol I never called you stupid xD Usually people open their portals exactly at 5:00 EST or 2:00 PT which is when the Ivies update portals. They don’t wait until receiving emails because sometimes the email doesn’t arrive in their inbox until a day or two later. This happened with my friend last year. We were actually touring the ivies when decisions came out, but he was going to wait until 3 days later to open them when he was with his mom. Then on April 1, Columbia emailed him “Congratulations on being accepted,” and his Dartmouth interviewer emailed him on April 2, “Congrats! You got into Dartmouth.” So he ended up finding out through email from those two.
@emli8100 I’m opening all the ivies at home with my parents because they have been next to me with support and hope throughout this whole process, so I think it’s best to be next to them while receiving my decision from such a school! But on Friday, I’m opening my UChicago decision at school with a close friend who also applied to UChicago. We both agreed to keep it discreet and go in the hallway to open them. For others though, I would say to open them if you please! Honestly, you getting accepted to a college should not trigger negative vibes from others, and if it does, those people need to get over themselves lol If they were your friends, why would they be irritated that you succeeded in life? And if they aren’t, then why does that person’s opinion matter? It doesn’t! That person is probably the SAME person that would’ve told you not to apply in the first place. I would recommend to open them wherever you want to because you’ve put in the time, stress, and effort the past 4 years of your life and are finally able to see where all that got you to! I would still be considerate though:) Like don’t go and rub it in people’s faces, but still feel free to celebrate!
@mackyg Are you the one who comment those memes on the UChicago post? XD
@DreamforIvy lol you caught me haha idk how they’ll react to that but hopefully they have a sense of humor
I asked my parents if I could stay home from school and ballet to open these… Don’t want to put a dampener on anyone’s day if I get rejected but also don’t want to rub it in people’s face if (in the slightest chance) I get in.
