Ivy Day 2018

any international students?

@DiegoDad1 I would go to USC in a hearbeat and I got in too but the issue for me is that the Ivies have aid and USC doesn’t sigh

@yoharamona USC is generous w aid for National Merit Finalists. Did you make NMF?

@lanean18 Thank you! He really loved Tufts. I lived near Tufts for a decade and it’s not my favorite choice, but I’m not the one who would be there for four years! I don’t even know what it is about it that he liked so much, especially because he was ambivalent over other similar schools. And as you can see with his choices, he was all over the place - city, middle of nowhere, and everything in between. His only requests were that he go somewhere in the Northeast and that he would be able to make the rowing team. Yale is the ONLY school of all he applied to that he might not be able to row. But he said he would be OK with that if it meant going to Yale. It’s why I think he will choose Princeton over Yale if he has a choice, bc the rowing coach at Princeton was definitely interested, just couldn’t offer support (he started the process REALLY late).

@grandscheme OOF I wish haha nope
but honestly whatever happens happens!

@lanean18 - DS also waiting for Tufts and is high on his list after his visit there. If a miracle happens and he gets in to any of the ivies he applied to I have told him not to be starstruck . Still need to sit down and look at all offers including Financial Aid -

DD awaiting Dartmouth, Princeton, Harvard and Columbia/Sci Po (and Stanford). Apps essays weren’t great-she was so buried in senior school leadership commitments. Stats, ECs and recs excellent.

She is in 8 of 8 so far and has excellent choices. Everything up in the air though until all schools have made their decisions. Really wish the process was not so uncertain. It is ridiculous to have applied to so many but even her school college counseling dept put most of the ones she applied to and got in to already as reaches.

rejected from Yale scea but still applied to Dartmouth! Not expecting much and I love the schools I already got into, but it’s fun to be on these threads! Good luck to all!

I applied to Yale, Columbia, Brown, UPenn, and Cornell. I wish I applied to Harvard and Princeton but both time/reluctancy resulted in me deciding not to. I’m hoping for the best and preparing for the worst, I guess.

My son applied to Brown, Cornell and YPH… This whole process has been a rollercoaster ride because before he scored well on the standardized tests and the recruitment material started, we never really even thought about Ivies. He was always great at STEM, and we expected good scores on math/science portions of tests, but had no idea he’d get great English/CR scores too.

All of the stuff they send gets your hopes and expectations up…but slowly since December been learning just how difficult it is to get into these elite schools. Things seem more competitive than ever this year too - I’m wondering if there was a mini-baby boom in the year 2000 and there are just more kids graduating?

So far he was denied at MIT (did EA, got deferred, and then denied on 3/14), accepted to Case and waitlisted to UChicago… CMU coming up too - from the looks of their thread, they denied a lot of people w/ GREAT stats in ED, so they are probably just as selective as the Ivies, or at least close to it (which I never realized was the case)…

Good luck to everyone…

@DiegoDad1 yes. My D was accepted into NC State which is her dream college. She only applied to Cornell because she felt she needed to apply to the best colleges that have a DVM program, since she wants to be a Vet…never close a door.

She was waitlisted from VA Tech.
Her stats are good, SAT, not good enough for Ivies, but her ECs are all Veterinarian related.

We shall see. Good luck everyone!

Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth, Princeton, Penn

@DiegoDad1.Actually one of the schools that is high on my son’s list is TCU(Texas Christian University) after being selected a Chancellor Scolar there with full tuition and acceptance to their Honors college . For some reason they really made an impression on him and he felt like it was a good fit . I know it’s not the highest ranking school (78) but if he wants to stay in Texas for Medical School definitely not a bad choice. Certainly would save us a lot of money . With 7 MD’s in the family ( dad, grandpa , uncles and aunts) he knows first hand that getting an MD degree can be pricey. All of them successful doctors without an ivy undergraduate degree. The choice is ultimately his but he is aware of cost etc and I believe he will make the best decision for himself.

DD already got several admissions, but still waiting for the results from: H, Y, P(deferred), Columbia & Brown. Good luck to everyone here !

@livingandwriting My D strongly considered Pitt as well. She was especially interested in the Bachelor of Philosophy option. In the end being close to home won out. Good luck with your decisions.

@MathMom71 same here. My son has LD’s in reading and writing. Makes all A’s and math and science are easy for him. Had no idea he would get a 35 on the ACT. Things have changed since his older brother went to college 10 years ago. More competitive and less scholarship money

Here waiting for Penn, Dartmouth, Harvard. Received likely for Cornell. Praying for other acceptances and good financial aid!

Iḿ waiting on Dartmouth and Princeton. I love Dartmouth the most! Praying for acceptances and good financial aid! Otherwise Iḿ going to my local public thatś super close to home with loans.

can people waiting on Penn try this https://key.admissions.upenn.edu/portal/day-hosting-admits
it gets me to a form but i’m too scared to click submit because it has my name and email

Daughter is only waiting on Yale and Princeton (deferred SCEA). She will also be waiting on Duke tomorrow and then maybe we can finally get to making a decision. She was accepted to MIT on 3/14 so it is the front runner until she hears back from these three.
