Hey guys,
ever since I have been thinking about college I set my standards pretty high; I’m aiming to get in to an Ivy League school.
I am wondering what it takes to get into a college like that. Despite what it says on my profile I am a freshman in high school and so far my GPA is a 4.7. Also, I have been thinking about Harvard, but getting into that school is pretty rare so I don’t know if I will be able to make it, but a friend of mine told me that to get into Harvard one of the things you need is to take 4 years of a language. I am only going to be able to take 3 years since this year my dad made me take Cisco Networking. The rest of high school I will take French, this isn’t where I wanted to be in the language portion of high school because in Senior year I wanted to take a French elective, but I guess that won’t happen… Will my chances be diminished of getting into an Ivy League school be diminished if I took 3 years instead of 4, I mean I’m a fast learner of languages, I can make up a lost year…
Haven’t heard about that thing with the languages and not sure if that’s true, but keep in mind: Ivies are some of the most unpredictable colleges in the nation. Sometimes I get the feeling they just choose the strongest applicants and out of those, choose at random So, I bet someone will give you the answer about the languages but my tip would be to continue going strong and get lots of ECs and stuff and try to stand out. Even then, don’t forget to add some safety schools because you never know.
At Harvard, four years is recommended, but they won’t drop you from consideration for only having three.
It’s certainly not random. The rumour has to do with throwing the application files down the stairwell. Something about the fatter ones segregating out on the stairs…
