Work Experience

There's a reason why colleges ask you to list your PRINCIPAL extracurriculars.

You're going to need something more substantial than the PSAT (although those PSAT scores translated into SAT scores do not bode well). Take some SAT II's as well.

First of all, remove everything that happened before high school. Then narrow ECs and Honors down to about the top 4-6 things that you feel are most important.

Of those, only Columbia is in the Ivy League.

too much going on here...

i agree Chrimaya....WAAAYY too many EC's...and some of those are from middle school -.-

I suggest you take the real SAT and try to cut down on the EC's you list and only post the ones that are important TO YOU....

"Jack of all trades, master of none."

Ever heard that line? Beware of the dreaded laundry list.

Your math PSAT score isn't that high.

Okay, so I plan to take the SAT in January and the Bio. M, US History, Literature, and Math II SAT Subject tests throughout the spring. I won't get my junior year PSAT scores back until December/January, but on my practice tests I scored around 77 (w) 68 (c) and 65 (m) if that changes anything...although I don't think that qualifies for national merit (hopefully, I did better on the actual exam, though). As for extracurriculars, I guess the principle ones would be: Dance (performance as well as mentoring; 9-11 and probably next year as well), Lacrosse (I just started this year, but I plan to continue it next year), Literary Society, Youth Action Council, and Scholar's Symposium. The most important awards are National History Day state awards, the Golden Palmetto Leadership Award, and "Dance if you Dare" awards. With service and leadership, the most notable are chairing the winter project and the grant committee of the Youth Action Council.

I also plan to start volunteering regularly at the local art museum as a docent and interning with a professor at a local university. Plus, I'm going to enter more creative writing competitions as well as essay competitions. What else do you think I should do if I want to get into any of those schools? Or is it too late?

(Oh...I know that Tufts, Georgetown, and Wellesley aren't Ivies, but they are very selective...I guess my thread title was a bit misleading =/)

As has been said, you seem to be well-rounded, but also "spreading yourself thin". Pick a reasonable number (5-8, I'd say) of activites/awards that are most meaningful and don't mention the ones that won't help you or don't really matter to you personally. Your academics aren't as strong as they could be for applying to the schools, but they're overall very good. I'd say you have a good chance, maybe somewhat of a reach though.

I can't contribute to your chances, but I saw your first at HOSA State. I had a friend compete in that, I saw the things she was studying and I have to give her (and you) credit for not giving up. Congrats. Were you at nationals?
