this thread makes me lose respect for a lot of people here.

2011 ranking by US News

Harvard (1)
Princeton (2)
Yale (3)
Columbia (4)
UPenn (5)
Dartmouth (9)
Cornell (15)
Brown (15)

Harvard / Princeton / Yale
Columbia
Penn
Dartmouth
Cornell
Brown

Harvard / Princeton / Yale
Columbia
Cornell
Penn
Dartmouth
Brown

Dartmouth is better than UPenn, in both selectivity and education

According to [50 Top Colleges](http://50topcolleges.com/Rankings.html)
- princeton
- harvard
- yale
- Columbia
- Brown
- Dartmouth
- cornell
- Upenn

BTW, don’t get too serious on these rankings… They are good and they are the same

This thread is funny. (And, quite frankly, a bit elitist, and a bit pointless… but mostly funny). I packed out in a guffaw at that Creation-myth style Big-three story… LOL. :)

Harvard

Penn

Dartmouth

Princeton

Yale

Columbia

Brown

Cornell

Most people consider HYP the mega ivies, Columbia/Penn/Dartmouth the good ivies, and Brown/Cornell the worst ivies, though all of them are elite and great

Based on what school I would want to attend most:

Dartmouth

Princeton

Cornell

Yale

Brown

Harvard

Columbia

Penn

What’s with all this Dartmouth love? Maybe the campus and atmosphere is great, and the college town is great, but I don’t see why that would make it a higher ranking institution unless you’re ranking based on which you want to attend the most like the poster above.

I swear, I have never seen so much hate towards Cornell except on CC boards… I’d like to clarify, for the 132042874208 time, that a low acceptance rate does NOT equal crap college. Clearly, there are no engineers on this thread, as Cornell has the best engineering program out of the Ivies. Besides, Dwight Schrute wore a Cornell sweatshirt on one episode of The Office - can you say prestigious? ;)

My opinion on the Ivy League (for undergraduate studies):

1) Princeton
2) Harvard
3) Yale
4) Cornell
5) Columbia
6) UPenn
7) Brown
8) Dartmouth

That being said, like many before me have stated, this is kind of a ridiculous thread, and all the Ivies are pretty great. Anyone should be pumped to recieve an acceptance letter from any one of these schools! :)

Objectively:

Princeton

Yale

Dartmouth

Cornell

Columbia

Brown

Harvard

UPenn

Again, objectively, not subjectively

^^ this guy has it completely correct.

what about for a prospective international relations/political science undergraduate?

1 word: Georgetown
If you really want more than 1 word: Science Po

I say those two for a reason: the sanity of this thread.

Brown is ranked first in the CC Ivy League subfolder!

I am pretty sure Harvard is the number one poli sci school in the nation

Wow, this thread is pointless, but hey, I need to procrastinate :)

In terms of prestige/international reputation, I’d say:

1) Harvard
2) Yale
3) Princeton
(no one realllyyyy knows beyond here outside the US)
4) Columbia
5) UPenn
6) Cornell
7) Brown
8) Dartmouth

Seriously, most people have only vaguelllyyy heard of Columbia, UPenn and Cornell; most people where I live would have no clue that Brown and Dartmouth are Ivies, because they’re ranked at the same level/below state universities here.

However, going beyond reputation and rankings (which are largely based on research that has little relevance to undergrads), I’d say that the best undergraduate programs (based on quality of education, extra curricular opportunities, cohort quality and student life) are:

1) Yale
2) Princeton (Princeton’s still absolutely amazing, but I think that Yale has a more vibrant on campus arts/extra curricular scene)
3) Harvard
4) Brown
5) UPenn
6) Columbia
7) Dartmouth
8) Cornell

Eh, I’m biased. My decision was between HYP, and initially it was H vs. P, but then changed to Y vs. P once I investigated Yale a little more. Yale won, but I love the arts, so perhaps I’m biased.

I think Columbia deserves more credit. I appreciate that Columbia goes for students that fit into the school and what it stands for, while maintaining its prestige and selectivity. There were numerous students where I’m from who were accepted into Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, and all the other Ivies, but were flat out rejected from Columbia. I think that speaks for itself. Where other Ivies go for numbers and top students, Columbia seems more selective because it demands more from the top students it accepts.
