I originally thought that Ivy Leagues only give need based scholarships, but I have been hearing otherwise recently. Does anybody know about this? If they do, which school tends to have the most athletic scholarships? On average, how many are there for track (or other non revenue sports)?

Sorry, but you are hearing wrong. No scholarships for sports or academic merit in the Ivy League. That said, I have heard people talk about so-and-so getting an athletic/academic scholarship to Harvard, Yale, etc. In such cases, they are either mistaking need based aid for merit aid, or fibbing. It is amazing how often we hear this.

Bonard48 is correct. No scholarships for sports or academic merit in Ivy League. Their need based financial aid is pretty generous. It may worthwhile for you to research that aspect of Ivy financial aid.

There is sometimes confusion about Harvard financial aid as some of their money is titled some variation of “Faculty of Arts and Sciences Scholarship”, when indeed it has no academic basis, it is all financial need-based.

Usually, the misnomer is simply the parents, family, or H.S. coaches celebrating the $$ and wishing to label it scholarship rather than need-based aid.

It is much more exciting to regale “a full ride” than “oh my parents are broke enough for me to qualify for lots of aid”.
