Ivy Leagues:Worth the trouble??

I was just wondering about yall's opinions as far as all the Ivy Leagues(from Harvard to Brown). What are your reasons for applying? What kind of people even stand a chance? Do they really offer a better education than state schools?

While the Ivies have things in common, they are not all the same. Different types of people apply to the different schools. Their reasons for applying are as varied as those for anyone applying to the thousands of colleges and universities in the world. They accept many highly motivated, intellectually capable students from all sorts of different backgrounds; there is no way to predict admission to the most selective schools, since not all valedictorians or perfect scorers on standardized tests (or even a large percentage of these applicants) are accepted. Across the board they do offer a better education than almost all state schools, with a few possible exceptions. However, they are not significantly "better" than many other prestigious private schools which do not happen to belong to the Ivy League (which is actually an athletic grouping).

I'm not applying because if I got in (and I would have a fair shot at some of the "lesser" Ivies, i.e. Brown & Dartmouth instead of HYP), I would have to take out huge loans to pay. And since I plan on going to grad school, that would be really ridiculous, especially since my undergrad college really won't matter in the long run.

An ivy might be harder than a state school, but from what I've heard is that the main difference between people who attend Ivies and state schools is that Ivy leaguers are more passionate about what they do. I suppose to some employers they care about what schools their employees went to and that might reflect their salaries. But it really depends on what job you end up getting because in some occupations it matters and some it doesn't at all.

i doubt it....but heck I'll still try, they offer some of the best archiecture and engineering courses in this country
