Ivy/MIT/Berkeley?? Worried.

Hey, I’m a junior in HS. I really want to go to a good tech school and major in computer science. I feel like I’m not crazy special, so I’m not sure if I even have a chance of getting into a school like Harvard or MIT. Everyone around me thinks I can, but I’m not sure. I moved cross country halfway through sophomore year and came upon some hard times where I couldn’t really focus on school, so I feel like it isn’t a very good representation of my skills and is kinda anchoring my GPA.

My stats are:

  • ~4.2/4.3 weighted GPA, plan on (hopefully) bringing it up to a 4.5 by taking all high level dual-enrollment/AP classes next year
  • 850 volunteer hours due to working at a summer camp with young kids, learnt a lot there about work ethic and how to be around people
  • Varsity swim for 3 years so far, team captain for a little while last season
  • Varsity tennis freshman year, haven’t gotten back into it since I moved
  • 4 plays, including being a lead in 2, plan on doing at least one more next year
  • NHS inductee
  • Only taken the PSAT, but I got a 1330; 600 Math (didn’t study, ended up learning my lesson), 730 Reading
  • Only top 15% in my class, but a lot of kids in the AICE program that we have in Florida have artificially boosted GPAs

Fun facts:

  • Know how to play 7 instruments, taught myself all of them besides drumset and trombone
  • I know Java, and am currently teaching myself Python, coded my first game today, actually
  • I’ve been in Honors and AP classes for as long as I could remember
  • I was doing my mom’s college level algebra homework for her in 6th grade

I don’t know. I just feel like I’m not all that special. I have a passion for learning and that’s the main reason I want to go to such a high level school. At this point in my life, I honestly couldn’t care less about prestige and wealth, as long as I can live comfortably. Is there a decent chance I could get into a school like Harvard, MIT, or Stanford?

Keep in mind those schools reject a lot of students with straight A + perfect test score + outstanding ECs every year - so hopefully you can understand your chances.

No one has a decent chance of getting into MIT, Harvard, or Stanford.

Your standardize test scores would have to come way, way up to be even in the realm of competitive.

Plenty of other good schools where you can be accepted. Focus on finding matches and safeties, not the reaches.

the musical instrument thing is really cool omg
if you emphasize that, you have a decent chance but admissions are a crapshoot anyways

Since when is Harvard a good tech school?
