So is my son. We just got back from some unofficial visits and meetings with coaches. Seems like you guys are in luck. One of the Ivy coaches said that there are not many really good lightweight recruits graduating '13.

I have heard similar things.

Hopefully all works out. Coach has assured me I am near the top of his list, and that things are looking good for me… which is hard to believe everyone says there is no chance at me getting admitted to an Ivy with an 1890 SAT, but he said it won’t be a problem, and that admissions has cleared me for recruiting

Have you gotten any other OVs? My S only got one and it seemed like two other coaches had him as a top recruit too but we haven’t gotten the other OVs yet. A bit worried since they say if one school is recruiting you then usually you will have others.

It seems as if some coaches just have there guys where as others wont even look at you. I have 3 OVs planned to ivys this fall, but some schools (even of a lesser tier) would barely even talk to me. There is definitely a bit of luck involved.

Went down for OV at HYP school, and committed. The coach said they would use a slot on me and put distinction on my application. They said that admissions gave all positive feedback so they don’t see why I would have an issue, and that they dont waste spots on guys that aren’t going to get in. They said once all of my stuff is submitted they will ask for a likely letter.

My Question is with an 1890 SAT which is very low for HYP , but a 4.0 GPA and 9th out of 362 school ranking w/o SAT IIs… how much bearing will my results for the SAT IIs have? Are they crucial? I am confident my essays and recs will be very good, but I would like to know how concrete acceptance is at this point, and if my SAT IIs are going to make or break me. How much pull can this coach really have? He obviously believes I am going to get accepted but I find it hard to believe

Jonesy—Congratulations! Will the school issue you a likely letter? That’s as close to an NLI as the ivies will get. With the Likely Letter, unless you completely tank the satIIs you should be good to go. And, ask the coach, if in his experience he has ever had an athlete who he gave a slot to get rejected by admissions at ED. I’ve only heard of it happening at stanford, which I think is harder to get into than the ivies.

Ask for a likely letter; the coach’s response will let you know how sure he is.

My S was also told he would be supported by coach at Ivy but even so there is still a possibility he will not get in. Make sure you have a backup plan. My S has called other coaches that were interested in supporting him EA/ED and asked them if he wasn’t admitted to his first choice would they support him RD.

jonesyaa, of course we can only speculate but not having the SAT II’s yet leaves an opening for them if they want to back out. not to be negative but if you have to meet an AI, the scores will matter; it’s an average of gap, class rank (when available) and scores. sometimes they don’t use SAT II’s if you have ACT --even schools that require SAT II’s. It all depends how they are allowed to crunch the numbers. Bottom line, don’t rely on anything until that likely letter or acceptance is in hand. And don’t let senior grades slip!!
