Ivy Tuition

So, Im a hard working frshman in high school with great GPA/HPA with honors and AP classes. I plan on taking three AP classes next year and all other honors. I plan to apply to Harcard, Yale, etc... but I/my family have NO money. We moved from Brazil when I was four, and we literaly had NOTHING. I want to know if there are full scholarships to these schools. Thanks!

Ivy League schools give only need based aid. They do not give merit scholarships at all. Any financial aid you get will be based on your family’s financial need. This will be determined by having your family complete the FAFSA and the CSS Profile (I think most of the Ivies require it…one may not). These forms will provide the schools with information to determine what your family can contribute. This is largely based on your family’s income and assets from the tax year just prior to your enrollment in college…and is computed each year. SO …if you will be starting college in 2013, your family’s income from 2012 will be used to determine what they are expected to contribute.

The Cost of Attendance minus your expected family contribution at these schools will roughly be your financial aid. At this point in time, they are very generous with their own monies. So…if the school costs $50,000 and your family is expected to contribute $10,000, your financial aid at most Ivies would be close to $40,000.

Remember, however, that 90% of students who apply to these schools do NOT get accepted. The first hurdle is to get accepted.

If you are a competitive student for the Ivies, I would urge you to look at other schools that DO give merit aid. You might find that your financial aid and scholarship prospects are quite good at many schools beyond the Ivies.

Thank you!
