My daughter will be in Boston in November and I need to get her a jacket that can be packed in a carry-on bag. She does not like the puffy Michelin Man look. She has a nice wool pea coat, put she needs something casual but stylish that can easily be packed. Will a North Face Denali Fleece Jacket be warm enough for that time of year? Thanks, as you can tell, we are clueless!

Yes, that will be fine. I assume she will be wearing the pea coat and packing the Northface?

Thank you! She will probably just put a sweatshirt on for the plane ride and then put the jacket on when she gets to Boston, same in reverse coming home. I don’t think she will need the pea coat on this trip, it is for an athletic event.

I would check the 10 day weather forecast for Boston as it gets closer. I was up in MA earlier this week and it was in the mid 30’s at night, and that was only the very beginning of October. Depending on weather, she might want to rethink the pea coat.

Thanks, will keep an eye on the forcast. Will the North Face not be warm enough if it is in the 30s? She could probably wear her sweatshirt under it. She doesn’t want to take her pea coat because it won’t fit in her carry-on bag, at least not with much else in there.

Lol, yes I’m sure it is. I tend to forget I am the biggest overpacker that there is.

She may need a fleece under the pea coat and tell her to pack a scarf and gloves. It could be very chilly in November especially in the evenings.

Here in the northeast the weather seems to change by Halloween. I seem to notice that every year we generally get away with lighter coats until that magic day. I would think if you are coming from a warm climate than it will feel especially cold.

I’m from South Florida and I currently go to school in the Northeast. I tend to get colder than everyone else because I’m not used to the weather. I have found that wearing a long sleeve shirt, a hoodie, and a North Face will do the trick. Then top it off with a scarf and gloves for extra warmth, especially at night.

I received a frost warning email from the local TV station today - I guess it’s going to be in the 30s tonight. The temperature can be all over the place. I recall a very warm December where we had temperatures in the 70s late December.

Another option might be a hoodie under the Denali. My daughter mainly uses a hoodie + a North Face jacket (not quite as warm as the Denali) most of the time using one, the other or both depending on the weather. She has a winter coat too which is a shell + zipout fleece but she avoids wearing that if she can.

Also, im used to the weather in philly and if your from florida and not used to it being really cold, a heavy coat might be nice, but what i would do is…

If you are looking to pack light, is get a good waterproof outer shell that will block the wind, then wear layers underneath. Fleece isnt wind proof i dont think and the cold air can blow right through it. Another thing is if she wont be outside much, i wouldnt overdress. Its not fun having to carry around a heavy coat inside for a long time. Just going from building to building you dont need to over do it.

I think its funny how everyone in florida says they like the heat, but keep the a/c so cold you freeze inside. I hate the hot humid weather. Its worse here in Philly than in florida durring the summer.
