Just got an email letting me know I was chosen as a semi-finalist. To people asking about the schools that offer “pretty much a full ride” Stanford does the same thing in a way, but no matter way they make every student pay at least 5k each year which is what I’ll be paying but I am assuming I will pay more after freshman year.
Does anyone know if you get anything at all if you aren’t chosen as a finalist. Maybe a smaller scholarship?
what makes you a finalist? I thought we were already finalists and then whoever they choose out of the state is the receiver of the scholarship? They told me that (for Florida) they were interviewing like 12 people but only 4 would get it. D: now i’m really depressed. and @MickyOmoney Sorry I should’ve specified Oxford College of Emory but my cousin went to Oxford after UPenn and she loved it there! lol XD And I thought this scholarship was only for seniors in high school? not university students?
also to anyone who had their interview how was it? I’m really nervous DX
Just kidding about my original statement we are semi finalists (based on what the email said).
does anyone know how the scholarship is awarded? Is it given directly to us, so we can use it for textbooks, school supplies, etc. or to our school?
I called and they said notification of semi-finalists occur in rounds (as there are multiple rounds of interviews.) So, semifinalists may not be notified for another 1-2 weeks.
anyone from massachusetts, new hampshire, vermont, rhode island or maine hear back yet?—I kinda know i might not be a semi finalist but really got my fingers crossed
Anyone from Maryland hear back?? Getting kinda anxious!
My student got their rejection email today. We live in Wisconsin. Good luck to the candidates who are moving forward!!
@Spottedcow so did i! its sad because this is such an amazing program opportunity but nevertheless, good luck semi-finalist!
Don’t be discouraged. My student didn’t receive the Jackie Robinson but since we received the email from them she has been offered two other full tuition scholarships. There are so many wonderful foundations, companies, and colleges out there who want to invest in the futures of young men and women. We feel very blessed. (Now we just need to find funding for room and board, and books.)
Hey guys, I just had my interview!
@Prospective1998 how was it what happened?
Nevermind. I had mine too!
@BlackHuntress How’d yours go?
@Prospective1998 It was interesting! I’m kind of sad because upon reflection (and I don’t want to jinx myself) I’m worried they may not consider my situation as having financial need…although I would hope that they don’t consider loans as money given in because 12k in loans is sad. Also the university I’m going to is a state school so that is already less. I’m praying though…like every day because I really REALLY want at least one scholarship to work out. :’( Also I realized after the fact that there was one other thing I could have mentioned since we just started it this year…but at the time I just wasn’t 100% sure about it. They were all really friendly though! although I was surprised only one person didn’t ask me a question. How about you?
@BlackHuntress We had some technology issues, so they could see me the entire time but I couldn’t see them! But I thought it went all right (don’t really want to jinx myself either, lol), especially since none of their questions (except for one) caught me off guard. Everyone was super sweet and I asked about their occupations, which was, in my opinion, one of the more interesting parts of the interview. I will say that I expected it to be a bit longer (we ended at around 22 minutes and I was expecting 30). And I don’t think you’d be put out of the running just because of your loans; that doesn’t seem very fair to me. Also it doesn’t seem fair that they would weigh certain schools more heavily than others when making their final decisions
@Prospective1998 No same! I thought it was supposed to be 30 minutes but it was a little less which kind of had me worried that I didn’t talk enough but whatever happens, I hope both of us get the scholarship! Then we could actually meet!
@BlackHuntress That would be awesome! I’m doing what I did when I was approaching Ivy Day which is: not getting my hopes up. It’s a bit ridiculous but I’m just trying to forget about the scholarship right now, lol. But I would love to meet you!
